I think (and will be corrected quickly if wrong) that an "active" ppp link
in this case is a link which is up and running. "Inactive" means
configured, and available to be activated. In this case, I _think_ that
there is a button on a configuration screen/window which asks "Do you want
to activate on boot". Don't select the button.
I wish I could be more specific about where that screen is, but I had to
change entirely over to a command line/script based solution. I use
scripts derived from those found in /usr/doc/ppp-2.2.0f-2/scripts. If you
elect to use these scripts, check that each file is referenced by the
fully quallified name, as I had path difficulties.
