sendmail ->qmail problems, help

Prompted by report of sendmail security risk I tried to install qmail.
And I ran into several problems in a process. Can anyone outline the
procedure for the switch from sendmail to qmail?
Can exmh work with qmail? Installation of qmail broke exmh on my system.
When I try to send mail, I get error message "problem sendig mail,
premature end of file on socket" and nothing gets send. I tried to
uninstall qmail, rpm reports that qmail is not installed!?! I uninstalled
mh, exmh and sendmail. In the next step I coudn't install exmh and mh
back, rpm reported that sendmail is required by these packages. So I
installed sendmail followed by mh and exmh. Sendmail seems to start fine
on bootup (no error messages, no delays), but still when I try to send
mail from exmh, I get the same error message.
How do I make exmh work with qmail, and if this is not possible, how do I
return to functioning exmh?
