Dave, 

We had 16, then added the second 16 for total of 32 same as you, and the
only thing we had to do was add more ttyC* in /dev & /etc/inittab. After
that it runs fine. we started with RH 2.01 then jumped to RH 4.0 and skipped
3.03. We run them at 115,200 speed. ppp does fine on them. It must be
something simple, maybe check over the set-up again.
