In article style, sections are numbered  as 1, 2, etc. So you probably
are using book style. If I remember correctly there is no 4th level
numbering (like 1.2.3.4) in LaTeX. What reference told you that
subsubsections should be numbered?  As anything
of this sort, this can be changed though by redefining the counter for
subsubsection.
