Hello,

I have installed redhat 4.0 onto two computers in my research groups
network which has a NIS and DNS server.

Now, when we rlogin onto these machines from hosts that are in hosts.equiv,
it takes upto 34 seconds to login!!

It seems that pam is the culprit. If I set verification to pam.permit,
login is immediate!!

Also, if I remove all verification except,
rlogin auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_rhosts_auth.so

It is still slow. I see two possibilities:

The pam code for rhost is very slow for some reason (missing files?? etc)

or, the redhat code is slow providing information: Maybe it is having trouble
parsing the hosts.equiv file? I noticed that it may fail to parse
the hosts file unless it is created using the control-panel.

Thanks

Ryan
