What are you using to measure performance ?
If you're just using FTP and looking at the results, it is not at all a
good test of network performance because there are a lot of complicating
factors.
Unfortunately I don't know of benchmark stuff, maybe ping, or something.
Hopefully someone else can help out.
My point here is that perhaps everything is working just fine. Sometimes
my FTP stuff tells me that I got 1,000,000Bps throughput ! It is
possible you might say, but not on a 28.8 modem !
Hey ! Maybe there's Norton Utilities for Linux ! :)
Actually, something you might try to be more comparable to Win95 would be
NFS or Samba...
