Depends on resources available ....
If you have a big enough spare disk on a machine for which you have root access
just copy the raw bytes over and mount it !
Failing that, "strings | grep" should allow you to find all sorts of things ...
A perl script could look for "^From:" (or some other fingerprint) and save
the byte offset (in case you want more later) 20 lines before it and 100 after
and you'll get a plausible guess at email ....
