Take a trip to sunsite.unc.edu and get the PPP-HOWTO (V2.2). You can ONLY
have one default route...you are probably pointing a default route at the
old gateway machine that is still running the dial up link to the
internet.
route del default
Will do this for you.
However, it may be that you have a default route as opposed to a specific
route to you local ethernet - you will need to make that a specific
network route as opposed to a defualt route (using default route for this
is *BAD* as it causes the sort of problems you are having...)
