Trouble with my Number nine 771

Help! I am trying to get my Number Nine 771 w/ 4MB of VRAM running under
any version of X at this point. I have Redhat 4.0 (from a fresh install)
and was using a Generic 1MB Trident card that worked under XFree86 using
the SVGA server. I have tried to run xf86config to tell it I am using a
the new card and have tried the S3 server and the SVGA server with the
same results: it looks like it is raining on my screen when I fire up the
server with startx. Everything is shimmering on the screen, but the
window manager and an xterm does startup. I have tried different monitor
settings, even using the lowest one in the list, but still the same
results. It is a PCI card and I have PCI bios support built into the
kernel. The motherboard is an ASUS P100 with Intel 430VX PCIset chipset.
I have also tried to configure MetroX using configX. I can select
everything fine, but when I run it, I get a blank screen. It is clear as
a bell, just blank. I have the .fvwm2rc.m4 in my home directory and have
.xsession pointing to the proper .Xclients that should be firing up the
window manager and such. Are there other files I should be aware of?
The error logs in /var/log/Xerrors has nothing regarding it's inability
to find files and such. Any help regarding these problems would
be appreciated as I love X and really would like the video to be sharp. I
will happily supply more info to any and all who are willing to help.
