You are correct.

You want another printer entry in your /etc/printcap file without any
filter, i.e. no if= line. Call it, for example, djraw. Then choose that
printer on your Windows 95 machine, and use the Deskjet drivers that you
have on your Windows machine. Then Linux will just send exactly what it
gets from the Windows machine directly to the printer. It isn't necessary
to have the Linux machine do any filtering.
Or just intall magicfilter and be done with it :-)
