Nope. Linux has had it for quite a while. Other unixes have it too

The relevant ones :)
Things like /etc/hosts, /etc/networks, etc.
Could I politely request that the RH-installed /etc/host.conf
start with
# This file is no longer used; please see /etc/nsswitch.conf.
