S3 vidcard/Modem problems

I have just found out that having an s3 video card and a
modem connected to cua3(Com4) is incompatible for some reason.
Could someone tell me what to do to make my modem(on cua3) and
s3vid-card combo work?
I am a newbie so the more details the better.
