Hi,

I am using RedHat 3.0.3 with kernel 1.2.13 on a SCSI based pentium,
and am trying to upgrade to kernel 2.0.24 with genuine Creative Labs
Sound Blaster 16 PnP Support. I bought the new O'Reilly Book "Linux
Multimedia" by Jeff Tranter as a guide for installing the sound card.
After doing a zdisk and booting my new kernel, the Sound Blaster 16
drivers and card works, but I get other errors duing bootup:

Nov 11 13:33:40 moltech6 syslogd 1.3-0: restart.
Nov 11 13:33:40 moltech6 kernel: klogd 1.3-0, log source = /proc/kmsg
started.
Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: Cannot find map file.

In addition to the "Cannot find map file" error, I also get an iBCS
error that does not log to /var/log/messages, something to the effect of
SOCIADDRT: error. I also get a detailed paragraph message that quicly
flashes off the screen, saying I have the wrong kernel. The new kernel
is 2.0.24 that I am using, and I get these error messages whether or not
I apply any patches.

When using the 1.2.13 kernel, and not the newly compiled one, I get a
normal iBCS message upon reboot:

Nov 11 10:25:54 moltech6 kernel: iBCS: socksys registered on character
major 30

The sound blaster seems to be okay as evidenced by these startup
messages:

Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: Sound initialization started
Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: <Sound Blaster 16 (4.11)> at 0x220 irq
5 dma 1,5
Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: <Sound Blaster 16> at 0x330 irq 5 dma 0
Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: <Yamaha OPL3 FM> at 0x388
Nov 11 13:33:41 moltech6 kernel: Sound initialization complete

Any comments or suggestions on how to build Sound Blaster 16 support
WITHOUT screwing up the rest ot the kernel would be greatly
appreciated! Thanks. Regards, Niel
