I've got a Best Fortress 950. When I asked for the interface documentation,
they immdiately mailed a 32-page booklet with ample discription to me. It's
a very well engineered unit; I have never heard a single negative comment
about any Best UPS. I highly recommend Best UPSs. You can buy directly
from Best, or get a substantial discount from resellers. There are a few
with decent prices (equivalent to other UPS brands) who advertise in
Computer Shopper; I bought mine from ProSource Power.
Background: I spent a long time UPS shopping. I called APC and asked if
they would give me interface documentation for their smart units if I
bought one. They said they would. I bought one. They reneged, saying
that I would have to sign an NDA. I sent their unit back and bought the
Best unit, and learned a valuable lesson for the low price of shipping
the APC unit back...
I can only recommend that people stay away from APC.
Oh, another story: Red Hat bought an APC unit (I wasn't responsible
for the purchasing decision, as you can tell...). It had a defect.
We exchanged it for another one, which acted like it was charging
when we plugged it in, but the inverter would never work. I finally
took it apart and discovered that all the battery cables were
disconnected...
