Another generic suggestion (Not having gotten my 4.0 CD yet :-|) is to 
make sure that plug and play is disabled.  You need to boot in dos and 
run 3c5x9cfg.exe which is supplied on the 3Com diskettes that came with your
card.  
I can't speak yet for 4.0, but Picasso has no trouble with two cards.
