I use a custom script to do this, which works well with a cron job running
at 3am in the morning, it dials, connects, picks up the news, and logs the
ip-up, and ip-down times, so if I want i can calculate the time the scripts
are running. If it doesn't connect correctly then it doesn't retry. At the
same time as picking up any news it also retrieves and sends any pending e-mail
which is also useful, as the line is not running flat out.
I can send the necessary scripts if required.
