Newbie printing question!

I've been trying to get my HP Deskjet 870cse to print and no luck. I've
used the printtool
in the control panel to no avail. I get a message at boot time: lp: Device
configure but
found no interfaces.
When i run lpq I get a list of jobs and this message: Warning : no daemon
present.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
