This is clearly a configuration issue.  Therefore, in order to be
able to diagnose it, we'll need to know your configuration.  Please
let us know what filesystems are on what partitions.  Also, (although
I don't think that this is the problem here) make sure that your
/boot directory is on a partition that is entirely below the 1GB
mark.  Make sure also that /boot is on a partition which can be
reached by the BIOS.
