I broke my PAM

I followed the Errata for upgrading colgate with the fixes. However, due
to some overzealousness (?) on my part, I may have gotten out of order.

After everything was working, I rebooted a few days later for hardware.
Then, when I tried to telnet in, I couldn't. I never got a prompt. So I
searched the archives for similar problems. I saw a command (it is in
the Errata) to run a shell command with rpm (I forget the command, but
mkj added it to teh errata). After that things didn't seem to work... So
I found someone who got a new pam.conf to fix his problems. I installed
that and rebooted.

I could then telnet in, but I could use ANYTHING for a password (of
course it isn;t this machine I am sending mail from, so don't bother trying).

Needless to say, I have hosed PAM. What can I do or How do I get PAM
back working? I am not against, removing and installign anew the
services that require/use PAM...

TIA
