My display card is Diamond Stealth 64 Video (S3 TrioV+).
Since the RedHat3.0.3 installation (in May) I've had the
strange problem that startx didn't start up Xmetro at first
try after a cold boot. The problem remained after upgrading
the Xmetro from beta to enhanced. Upgrading to RedHat4.0
didn't help either. I haven't really look into this problem
before because I don't need to cold boot that often.

BUT, NOW IT SEEMS TO WORK. (For 5 cold boots)

Because of some XFree86 3.2 trials I reinstalled the Xmetro
and the old XFree (the basic thing and fonts). At first xdm
didn't start up because there was now link from /usr/X11R6/bin/X
to Xmetro. I created the link, and ...voila.

So I still don't know what was the problem, but it was
something with the system configuration. I cannot blame
Xmetro any more.

I wish this posting gives some hope for the people having
strange Xmetro start-up problems with Diamond cards. Maybe you
should try to install the packages ones more, start xdm with
debugging and see what happens. Maybe the problem is not with
the chipset as it's usually blamed in case of Diamond cards.
