The concept of package is a great idea. At the moment there appear to
be two competing versions - debian and redhat. Has any progress been
made in merging these two approaches, so that there is a generic
Linux packaging system?
I'm asking this because I wanted a piece of software that was only
packaged under debian, and I don't know how to install it.
Could someone tell me how to do this? (I don't want the whole
distribution - just one package!)
Perhaps "dpkg" and its associated information should be made into a
"debian.rpm" package.
