As you can see, the problem is that the client isn't authorized to
connect to the X-server.

Yes. But I quit running it two days ago, to run XFree 3.2

So don't use it. Use "chsh" from the shell instead. Much faster, and
you don't need privileges to change your own.

PS: If I want to run control-panel, I can "sudo control-panel" without
any problems. su'ing should be avoided.
