I believe the domainname you are referring to is the NIS domainname and
not the DNS domainname for your system. If you are not using NIS,
"(none)" is the likely value for domainname. (It is for me.) To see if
your domain is properly set, enter "hostname -d" or "dnsdomainname", and
to see your fully qualified domainname, enter "hostname -f".
How this all relates to your nagging pine problem, I can't say, since you
gave no details for it. You might also find further information in the
DNS-HOWTO or the NIS-HOWTO.
