 Check your serial port settings using "setserial". The Serial-HOWTO has
a good description for setserial. I think problem has to do with the UART,
and flow control configurations. I use autoconfig at startup:

  /sbin/setserial /dev/cuaN auto_irq skip_test autoconfig

Of course, replace cuaN with your actual serial port.
