There's a package called xautolock that does exactly this.

How do I activate a screensaver by default. By that I mean how do I make a
screensaver
automaticly start after 5 minutes. I'm using MetroX and in the configX there
is an
option to activate a screensaver after a certain time, but where do I
specify which
screensaver to start ?
