I read a whole bunch of stuff, still can't get this thing to work.

I am trying to follow the PPP-HOWTO to set-up a PPP connection. I have the
3.0.3 CD-Rom distribution on a Pentium.

I can connect to the PPP-server via the Windows connection, so I know the
server works and the info I have is correct -- It's a PAP-type connection.

I did not get past the "establishing the connection manually" part. So,
there are no "dialer-scripts" involved here.

I connect to the server through minicom type "ppp", see all the junk fly
by, then I leave without resetting, and do"pppd -d -detach /dev/cua1 &"
and watch the messages in /var/log/messages. After several attempts at
talking to the server the connection gives up and I get "IPCP: Timeout
event in state 2!". At no point do I see anything but the loopback when I
type "ifconfig".

Please respond if you need more details and want to help,

Thanks.
