Hi, there:
I have tried to upgrade my Redhat linux from 3.03 to 4.0, using
official version CD. After upgrade and build new kernel, I think
I messed up with lilo.
At first, after reboot, lilo can be see dos. When I specify to load
dos, the computer says something like "do not have data". At this
point, I can still load linux, with many errors: my cdrom drive
needed to be loaded from dos before linux can recoganize it.
Trying to load dos first, then linux, I unload lilo using lilo -U.
This was a fatal error: Now, I cannot even load linux anymore.
The boot disk comes from the official
package can be used to boot from floppy drive and world not go any
further because it cannot find my cdrom drive.
I use dos boot disk to boot dos. But dos cannot access C.
It says something like "general failure in reading drive C:
abort, retry" that we all have seen before. I am quite sure
hard drive C is physically okay.
Background:
I have a 486/66 with 20 mb ram. Two hard drives (both ide)
dos/windows in a drive and linux in another. When I use
Redhat Linux 3.03, I have to boot dos first to load cdrom drive,
sound card drive etc then go to linux.
I know that I am in big trouble! Any suggestions, helps are
greatly appreciated!
