I have observed simular symptoms in a simular network setup (using slip
instead of ppp) when the MSS on the sl0 and the eth0 are differnet. A
maximum packet size is supposed to be negotiated and seems to happen
correctly on Linux, but the Win95 workstation doesn't seem to get it right
all the time. I added the mss 296 option (to match what ifconfig shows on
sl0) to the route command on the slip server to the Win95 machine and all
has been well since.
