kernel 2.0.24: Problems with soundcard

I just upgraded on one machine from 2.0 to 2.0.24 and it appears
that IRQ 7 on the SBlaster is no longer being recognized.
If i reboot 2.0 this problem disappears:
I believe i have used the same options in both the two cases when
compiling the kernel

Note several things:

1) Sound Driver:3.5.4-960630 for 2.0.24 and 3.5.2-960630
2) Missing from the 2.0.24 list are
- the SoundBlaster Mixer,
- driver Type 6: SoundBlaster 16bit
- and Audio devices: SoundBlaster 16 4.13 (i guess as a result of the
missing driver for soundblaster 16).
What gives?
