I had lots of problems getting Linux to find my Adaptec 1522A SCSI card during
installation. I finally succeeded by passing the parameter aha152x=0x340 during the
SCSI lookup, and the installer found the card. I did an ftp upgrade of my RH 3.0.3.
Normally I boot up from a floppy, using the command
linux aha152x=0x340 ramdisk=0 root=/dev/sda2
However, now the boot disks don't find the SCSI card, and I tried all of the
suggested Adaptec boot images in the errata, using the same command line as above.
The only way I can boot up the system is using my old RH 3.0.3 boot disk with the
above command line. Am I causing any conflicts by doing so? I've also lost the use
of my XFree86. When I run startx (in root), I just get a blank screen with the
default menu by pressing the left mouse button. Using xinit gets me a graphics
screen which then disappears, and there's a message
xterm: no available ptys.
Finally, when I use xdm, I can get in the system using one of my leftover user
account, but I can't use open any xterm, color xterm window, etc. If I login using
the root and password, I get the same default menu with no other options. HELP!
