Hi:
O am using Red Hat (3.0.3) from Red Hat Linux Unleashed book.
I have been using Red Hat version quite successfully and was very happy when 5
minutes back I got kernel error and the whole machine crached.
Now when I boot it up it gets stuck at LILO. In fact it says LIL- and hangs. I
had the boot floopy. I use the boot floppy and type:
boot: mount root=/dev/hdb2 rw (hdb2 was my root partition). Things start
happening until I get the following message:
EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommended
bdb: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }
hdb: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=2191432,
sector=131080
end_request: I/O error, dev 03:42, sector 131080
Kernel panic: EXT2-fs panic (device 03:42): read_block_bitmap: Cannot read
block bitmap - block group = 8, block_bitmap = 65540
I am very SCARED. How can I do e2fsck manually. I have Win95 on hda1, and I
cant even start that anymore (this is another hard disk). Any help will be
highly appreciated. I have lot of important stuff on the box which I just
cannot afford to lose.
Thanks in advance.
Shinu
