First I'd like to thank the Red Hat team for an excellent product and
excellent support. I use AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris every day. Bug fixes
are very slow to come from these guys and that's after you get them to
admit it's their fault. Yes, version 4.0 had some bugs but the turnaround
time for repairs is amazing.

I'll start with what I consider a few minor bugs.

1) The installation process shows all partitions and asks for mount points.
DOS file-systems are added to /etc/fstab but the mount point directory
is not created by the installation and must be created manually.

2) The device file /dev/cdrom was not created during by the cdrom install.
My system is all scsi. I had to create a soft link to /dev/scd0. I'm
pretty sure this soft link was created by the 3.0.3 installation.

3) Red Hat modified the file /usr/share/emacs/19.34/lisp/sh-script.el from
the emacs 19.34 distribution. The modification changed 'lignux' to
'linux'. The file was not 'byte compiled' and the 'elc' file does not
reflect this change. 4.0 users should byte-compile this file to enable
   the change.

4) The file /usr/info/dir is missing a pointer to 'cc-mode'. Also, the
many of the descriptions are not up to date with the latest template file
released with gnu emacs 19.34 Here is the gnu emacs 19.34 'dir' file.

* Info: (info). Documentation browsing system.
* Emacs: (emacs). The extensible self-documenting text editor.
* VIP: (vip).           A VI-emulation for Emacs.
* VIPER: (viper). The new VI-emulation mode in Emacs-19.29.
* Forms: (forms). Emacs package for editing data bases
                          by filling in forms.
* GNUS: (gnus). The news reader GNUS.
* MH-E: (mh-e). Emacs interface to the MH mail system.
* CL: (cl). Partial Common Lisp support for Emacs Lisp.
* SC: (sc). Supercite lets you cite parts of messages you're
                          replying to, in flexible ways.
* Dired-X: (dired-x).   Dired Extra Features.
* Ediff: (ediff). A comprehensive visual interface to diff & patch.
* CC mode: (ccmode). The GNU Emacs mode for editing C, C++, Objective-C
                          and Java code.

5) The installation manual indicates to change to the 'dosutils' directory
on the cdrom and enter 'autoboot'. This is not correct. You must be at
the root of the cdrom and enter 'dosutils\autoboot'. Either the
autoboot.bat file should be fixed or the documentation updated.

A few suggestions to improve the product.

1) Add a couple of pages in the installation manual about linux fdisk. The
least user friendly part of the install is not discussed at all. New
(especially MS-DOG and Winbloze users) would find the interface difficult
to use. What was wrong with cfdisk? I think non technical users would
find the cfdisk interface more user friendly.

2) The default X Windows setup (TheNextLevel) is a huge improvement over the
past, especially for new users. Wouldn't it be even better to have the
backspace and delete keys fixed? Why not add the following lines to
   the default .Xclients?

# map the <BackSpace> key to the [BackSpace] keysym.
xmodmap -e "keycode 22 = BackSpace"
# map the <Delete> key to the [Delete] keysym.
xmodmap -e "keycode 107 = Delete"

3) I don't know if this is still the case but the last time I looked it
was very difficult for a new user to determine how to get 16 or 24 bit
color under X. Wouldn't details about 'startx -- -bpp 16' be a worthy
addition to the Red Hat FAQ?

4) The Ethernet card installation selection screen is confusing regarding
Dec 21x4x chips. My SMC 8432 EtherPower card has a DEC 21041 chip. In
the old days the driver for my board was called the 'tulip driver'.
Therefore, when I saw the installation menu pick for a 21040 (Tulip)
card, I went for it. This pick did not work. I needed the DEC 4x5
selection (which works perfectly). Can this be cleared up some?

5) As previously reported, sendmail took forever to start until I entered
   a host and domain name.

6) As previously requested, a 16 bit color version of Red Baron. Those of us
with 2M video cards and want to run 1024x768 or 1152x900 with more than
256 colors must use another browser.
