This is a suggestion for those who still have problems installing with
their primary boot disk on an Adaptec 2940 or related controller. I
have *not* checked this in the 4.0 installation, so I cannot verify that
it works. But, it worked in 3.0.3.
There are kernel images in
1. ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/incoming/kernels/
and
2. ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/kernels/
with 2940 drivers built into the kernels. Also, in 1. there is a readme
file which tells how to build an install disk (for 3.0.3) by essentially
copying this image to the vmlinuz or linux file on the boot.img disk and
passing parameters to the boot prompt when installing. This is for
those with an installed Atapi CDROM drive.
With these kernels and the 3.0.3 cdrom, one can easily install a base
system with a 2.0.0 kernel. Then, one can upgrade to 2.0.23, etc.
It might be worth trying to try to replace the
vmlinuz
file on the 4.0 boot.img disk with the file
2940-590.img
from 1. above to see if one can install.
If anyone tries this and has success, please let me know.
HTH,
-sen
