Not bloody likely. ;)
I really really really really hope I'm wrong.
I've had the misfortune of wrestling with one of these Compaq
Monstrosities with Solaris x86. Not fun. The really scarry part was
that Compaq supposedly worked with Sun to make the thing work right.
Somehow in the line they changes some things that broke Solaris.
Supposedly someone at Sun managed to get Solaris x86 running on an
older box, but I just couldn't manage with the one I had.
The two biggest problems were the built in SCSI and video.
I finally managed to get the SCSI going by detaching the CD-ROM... for
some odd reason having the CD-ROM plugged in caused a kernel panic. I
do believe I found out later that the version of the kernel I was
using didn't have a driver that suppored CD-ROMs on that SCSI. :-/
As for the video... I never managed anything better than 640x480x16.
The chipset claimed to be a standard (Solaris supported) Cirrus
chipset. Wasn't even close.
I wish you luck, but IMNSHO you should ship that Compaq piece of
garbage right back where it came from, and get a generic piece of
hardware so you know what you're getting. Unless, of course you got
it as an evaluation machine like we did.. then install DOS and play
Doom on it. :)
(apologies to everyone else... as you might guess I have a real
loathing for Compaq :)
