After installing RH 4.0, I am having some problems that I cannot solve.
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated!

1. Kernel building - I have rebuilt the kernel and get *lots* of error
messages on bootup about module problems (insmod errors and wrong
versions). I have followed the procedure in the RH4.0 User's Guide
religiously, buit I still get the errors. The errors do not show up in
my /var/log/messages file until start ppp, then I get the following in
that file:

Oct 28 05:14:11 localhost kernel: PPP line discipline registered.
Oct 28 05:14:11 localhost kernel: registered device ppp0

(from linux-2.0.18) don't match your linux-2.0.18

PPP works OK (almost, see below), so I don't have a clue what's going on
here. The only thing in the above list of modules that makes any sense
is the firewall stuff. I said "N" to firewall when I did an "make
xconfig", so I don't know why it's trying to do firewall stuff.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
2. PPP
I can get PPP to come up OK, but I cant get it to shutdown! I use
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifdown
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0
to kill it and nothing happens
-----------------------------------------------------------------

3. Printing
I have compiled printer support into the kernel. I can cat files to
/dev/lp0 just fine. When I try to lpr simple text files, I get a blank
sheet of paper. I used the control-panel to configure the printer, and
no matter which printer I choose (or even none) I still get a blank
sheet. I looked at the dfxxxxxxxx file in /var/spool/lpd/lp and it
contains the data to printed. What gives?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

4. In RH 3.0.3, "less"ing a file allowed you to page up and down in the
file with the Page Up and Page Down keys. No more! Page up gives the
previous output (before the less command). BTW this is only a problem
in X Window

----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Even with NumLock on (in X), I can't get the number pad to do
numbers; it always does cursor movement. I have "setleds +num" in my
.bash_profile. Can that have something to do with it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this is a big laundry list, but I appreciate any help you can
give!

Paul
