Pondering PPP

It seems to this newbie that PPP is pretty fragile... at least, it's
easy for a ham-handed beginner to break. At least I've learned (from
one of you) that when I screw it up, it's best to delete the entry and
create a new one with netcfg.

One confusing thing has been an apparent bug in the linuxconf that
comes with 5.2: at least when there's only one PPP enabled, the list
looks like there are none. But I noticed that if I scrolled up and
down, I could see some text in a thin crack. Clicking the crack
brought ppp0 out where I could see it.

When I got connected with my ISP and told Netscape to fetch the mail,
it told me that Netscape's network connection was refused by the
server athens.net (which is my ISP). Is that really likely to be the
story, or have I got another configuration problem?
