This supports vfat and EVERYTHING else without compiling:
# rpm -ivh kernel-2.0.36-1.i386.rpm
# vi /etc/lilo.conf
# lilo
# reboot
Get the rpm from one of the mirrors of RedHat 'updates'.
http://www.redhat.com/mirrors.
RedHat's updates site is usually slow or saturated - use a mirror.
You can compile a kernel if you want a slightly faster system,
but it's better to get everything working first with the modular kernel.
Yes, the modular kernel DOES do just about everything.
