I used to have this problem and the problem turned out to be gpm (the
utiltiy that enables the mouse under the console). I found two
workarounds:

	a) Before Starting X I'd do a 'mouseconfig --kickstart'
	b) Uninstall gpm and all references to it in /etc/rc.d/*
