Problems with mouse under X

Hi
I have problems on a pc using a mouse under X.
The mouse works under the console but when
i start up X with "startx" the mouse-arrow just freezes
and refuses to work, or it swirls uncontrollable over
the screen, what might be wrong here?
Should i try switching /dev/cua0 to /dev/tty0 insted?
I have /dev/cua0 linked to /dev/mouse right now,
i did also notice during the installation that Linux
didn't autodetect my mouse (its a logitech 3-buttons)
If anyone knows what might be wrong.. please let me know
