An application that you were running dumped core, you have a copy of it in
your home dir. You could analyze it to see why the application died or you
could just delete it. A common cause of cores in home dirs is getting an X
server configured and running (at least I dump cores a few times when I do
an X server setup as I push the equipment past the edge then back off just
a bit....)
