Greetings and Salutations,
I've currently got two Linux pnp problems.
#1 Previously posted, a Win98-RH5.1 box will not
share a modem. Once Win98 began successfully using the
modem, linux no longer can communicate with it. I can't
bring the interface up with any tool, even the CLI. Can't
even query the modem using minicom or cu. Win 98 seems to
have switched the serial port itself to pnp mode. I've
tried setting the BIOS to "non-pnp", but then Win98 won't
boot.
#2 Now, on a different dual boot machine, Win98 has
flipped my ISA 3Com 509B to pnp mode, and networking only
works under MS OSes.
Questions:
How do I get linux to flip both devices back? I looked on
3com's site for a DOS utility to disable pnp for the NIC, but
only saw drivers.
I redirected pnpdump to /etc/isapnp.conf, and uncommented the
appropriate lines, setting IRQ and IO. Is a reboot necessary?
Surely not??
If, and when, I get Linux to reassert control over the hardware,
will the two OSes constantly be flipping the bits back and forth,
or can I have the devices constantly in non-pnp mode?
Can I just manually change the settings for the port and the NIC
in MS Device Manager, and turn off pnp that way?
Should we put together a pnp howto? The Dual-Boot howtos are great,
but what about these conflicts that come up afterwards?
Thanks to all in advance...
