1) Have a look at http://www.plig.org/xwinman/
2) Most people would agreee that KDE is more than a just window manager.
3) You run one WM at a time (I have never tried to run two WM on a
single screen, but I use a dual screen setup sometimes and I am not
entirely sure what fvwm does then)
4) But of course, you can install more than one window manager on your
machine and use the one that fits your needs (which might change). I
do that.
