I also have tried that. LILO Users's manual says you can swap drives or
just remap a drive without swapping:

This is what I do:

other=/dev/hdd
        label=win
        loader=/boot/chain.b
        map-drive=0x82
          to=0x80
        map-drive=0x80
          to=0x82

Maybe you do it differently...
