I used the Applixware font installer to install a TrueType font. xfstt is
running so the ttfont directory is visible to X and some apps.

After going through the font installation as 'root', I exited X, switched
virtual terminals back to me as a user, and tried to start X. The attempts
fail (both as a user and as root) because the default font, 'fixed' can no
longer be found.

Here's what comes to the screen with the attempt:

(--) SVGA: RIVA128: Using hardware cursor
(--) SVGA: Using XAA (XFree86 Acceleration Architecture)
(--) SVGA: XAA: Solid filled rectangles
(--) SVGA: XAA: Screen-to-screen copy
(--) SVGA: XAA: Indirect CPU to screen color expansion (imagetext, polytext)
(--) SVGA: XAA: Using 8 128x128 areas for pixmap caching
(--) SVGA: XAA: Caching tiles and non-transparent stipples
(--) SVGA: XAA: Horizontal and vertical lines and segments

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages

_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

Could someone please tell me how to fix this problem -- quickly? I tried
editing /home/rshepard/.Xresources to replace the default "fixed" with
another font name (copied from the section immediately below it), but
without success.

And I have a bunch of stuff which must get out to clients today!

Thanks,

Rich
