This is not a question. Remember the thread a while back about what would be
a good UPS to buy?

I thought I'd share a success story buying a UPS from Best
<www.bestpower.com>. From my research APC had the best price, but Best
provided the source to their monitoring software. So, prompted by quotes
such as "I vote with my wallet" by a certain outspoken list member, and my
desire to support OSS, I bit the bullet and purchased a Patriot Pro 400. To
my delight the list price on their website is over 30% more than the price I
paid by calling an 800 number on their site! In addition, they provide the
cable with the unit, which makes it as good a deal as an APC with a cable.

Their tech support folks are very friendly and helpful. I found out because
I was having a problem with the battery runtime remaining being incorrect.
With the help of their tech support, I determined it was not a hardware
problem. I had dowloaded the latest version of their software from their
website, and It turned out to be a bug in the new version. Once I figured
out the problem, fixed and tested it, I made a patch and sent it to them. I
think the version on the CD works, although it looks like it had been pretty
much rewritten from scratch for some reason. If anyone needs the patch just
shout.

Anyway if anyone is hesitant about buying one like I was, I recommend Best.
Check out http://lhsw.com/ups if you want to see some live data from my
unit. This is not provided with their software, but easily hacked in.
