It normally is in /var/log/messages, but I moved it (along with
DNS statistics) to /var/log/daemon so I don't get my
/var/log/messages
filed all cluttered up.  I did this in syslog.conf.

As for SPAM... yes, I would imagine that someone could use you
as a SPAM relay.  I know zero about sendmail (I use qmail), so
I am clueless about how to configure sendmail to protect against
this, but it *is* a feature of Sendmail to be able to guard
against it.  However, you have to set it up.
