Mine is a BJC 250 currently. I can send text to the printer just
fine. I've also used a 24pin Epson dot matrix model which works OK
with plain text. Both printers print fine using Ghostscript.
Just for what it's worth, though, the only remaining caveat is that
to get color, I use a slightly different driver in ghostscript than
the bjc 250 driver, which doesn't support color (as of ghostscript
5.1). It prints color OK, but I think the resolution is not as good
as it could be -- certainly not as good as my brother's HP Deskjet
694, even with the photo cartridge (I got one just to check it out).
I know of course that there's a setting '-r' in ghostscript to
control resolution (dpi) but that is not the same as setting
number of colors, and the output looks similar to 8 bit color
depth -- in other words, ick. :(
I hear there's a new version of ghostscript - perhaps I need to
go looking.
