Neighborhood Business Services announces a public beta for version 1.4 of
its scientific and engineering data graphing program, LinePlot. The program
is designed to generate graphs usable in both publications and presentations,
and is oriented towards X-Y type data, producing line and scatter type plots.
LinePlot features allow it to produce graphs that are very difficult to do
with other PC products.

Version 1.4 adds a number of new features, as well as correcting a bugs
and deficiencies with the previous version, 1.3, as reported by users.

Basic LinePlot Capabilities
  * Multiple Data sets that can be related or unrelated.
  * Data can be plotted with lines, symbols, error bars, or combinations.
Lines connecting data points can be straight or curved. Complete user
control of line and symbol parameters.
  * Complete user control of the graphing axes. A single graph can have up to
5, independently scaled, vertical axes. Axis types can be linear, log,
or, new with this release, 3 probability types based on a normal
probability distribution. All axis types are invertible, to show max. to
min. instead of the normal min. to max. Also new with this release are
options for the automatic use of local currency symbols as well as
automatic data truncation by thousands ("K") or millions ("M").
  * Graph annotations that are independent of the data being plotted, that
can be placed anywhere on the graph. New with this release, each
annotation can have its own selectable font.
  * LinePlot can produce printed output or OS2 metafiles. Metafiles can be
pasted directly into other OS2 applications like the Describe word
    processor.
  * Independent sizing and placement of a graph on a printed page.

Features added with this release
  * Full color support. The program now supports full 24-bit color on all
options that permit the use of color. Color selection is either by a new
design color dialog, or by drag and drop of a color from an OS/2 color
    palette.
  * Threaded file operations. All file operations are now conducted on a
    separate thread.
  * Legends. The program now permits the use of legends on graphs in
addition to annotations. Legends maybe located on the top, bottom, and
right side of the graph. Separate provisions for editing the legend text
and changing its appearance are provided.
  * Variable font selection. In addition to selection of the font for the
basic graph, LinePlot now permits the main title, annotations, and
legends to use different font selections. With annotations, each
annotation can use a different font.
  * Improved international support. The program uses the proper local
currency symbols plus following the computer's local convention for use
of the comma (",") and period (".") in numeric data display. We now also
use your local code page for all text data entry and printing rather than
just the U.S. english page and default page.
  * Hi-lighting of the "0" axis. There is now a capability to automatically
high light a value of "zero" on the horizontal and left vertical axis.
This is particularly useful when an axis contains both positive and
    negative values.

Bugs & deficiencies corrected
  * Past problems with font size differences between printed output,
metafiles, and the screen has been corrected. Also, screen display of the
graph is now always shown in correct aspect ratio.
  * The Data Editing dialog operation is now independent of display screen
resolution. Also, previous restrictions on adding/deleteing data rows and
columns during data editing have been removed.
  * Limitations on some line type and widths combinations have been removed.
Also removed were previous limitation on the number of data groups that can
    be plotted at one time.
  * All dialogs have been redesigned to look better under Warp 4.
  * All dialogs have been redesigned to look better under Warp 4.

Other features
  * Extensive, context sensitive on-line help. The on-line help includes a
"General Operation" section to give first time users an overview of how
    the program works.
  * Installation includes a number of sample graphs, with separate
documentation plus the raw data files, to illustrate program
    capabilities.

  -----------------------------------------------------------------

LinePlot is full featured. Program registration disables a contrasting
watermark on printed and metafile output.

Program registration fee is $25(US). On-line registration through the OS2
Shareware BBS or Compuserve (GO SWREG, id: 6753) is available.

Availability

The current version of the program is 1.4d, and is contained in a single
file, LNPLT14D.ZIP that has been up loaded to the following sites:

OS2 Shareware BBS
       Telephone: (703) 242-4482
       Telnet: bbs.os2bbs.com
       Web page: http://www.os2bbs.com
On-line registration available with major credit card.

hobbes.nmsu.edu
Originally in the /pub/incoming directory with a final destination
to the /pub/os2/apps/graphics/plot.

Program upgrades, as they become available, will also be uploaded to
these same sites. There are no restrictions upon distribution of the LinePlot
archive, so it is anticipated that other sites will have the program.
