As Sydney PC Users Group OS/2 Special Interest Group Leader I am pleased
and proud to present the new-look OS/2 SIG. We have changed venues and
revamped the SIG meeting format. Meetings will still be held at 6.00 p.m.
on the third Monday of each month. November's meeting will be held on the
20th. This month's presentation will given by IBM on VisualAge Smalltalk
and C++. There will also be a December meeting held this year.
We have moved to Presentation 4, Level 10 Darling Park (the IBM
Building), 201 Sussex St, Sydney from the Metcalfe Auditorium at the
State Library, Macquarie St, Sydney. A parking station is directly
opposite across the street and limited street parking is also available.
For those who use public transport such as the train, Town Hall Station
is as close or closer to Darling Park than St. James Station is to the
Library. The new venue has integrated state-of-the-art audio/visual
presentation equipment installed.
The meeting format has been reorganized to place the evening's
presentation(s) and door prize raffle in the first half so that people
needing to catch trains etc. can do so without missing what many consider
to be the most important parts of the evening! The SIG leader or
appointee will start and moderate the meeting. The second half of the
meeting will consist of a revamped Q&A. This will involve a panel of OS/2
experts moderated by the SIG leader (or appointee), and will also take
advantage of the aforementioned A/V equipment. Beginners' tutorial
sessions are another new feature, and will occur in the second half of
the meeting.
The SPCUG thanks IBM for its generous support in donating the use of the
room and personnel free of charge, as well as the odd prize!
We would also like to thank Jim Cantor and Scott Atkinson for the
backbreaking work they've put in over the last 20 or so months to keep
the SIG afloat in difficult circumstances.
