Cristie OS/2 Backup News Autumn 1995
New DataBaX Backup Software.
DataBaX is Cristie's new 32 bit multi-threaded backup package for OS/2
systems. It features a wide range of new features including drag and
drop, a media database, and support for a wide range of data storage
devices.
Multiple User Interface's.
DataBaX features a choice of 5 different types of interface:
Command Line....to make disaster recovery and system installation as
quick and easy as possible.
Script interface.....to allow regular backups to be prepared and
executed simply.
Procedural interface...to lead you through the process as simply
as possible.
Full GUI....to allow the greatest possible degree of flexibility.
REXX...to allow customisation with various application programs.
Modular Design
DataBaX is available in three modules. DataBaX Workstation provides
support for stand alone PC's. DataBaX Server provides complete LanServer
support with the ability for several servers to be controlled from one user
interface. DataBaX Autochanger provides support for DAT tape library devices.

Software Installation...Made Easy
Cristie are also pleased to announce a new series of CD ROM drives that can
connect directly to the PC's parallel printer port. These new drives are
specifically designed to make the installation of new application or operating
system software as easy as possible.
The CD1600
This drive features a quad speed CD drive mechanism and both parallel printer
and SCSI interface ports. It is supplied complete with cables and software.
The Photon
The Photon is essentially two drives in one. It will read CD disks in the same
way that the CD1600 will. It also, however, can read and write data to a
650 MByte capacity phase change optical disk.
Parallel Port Optical
Also new is the OD1230 optical disk drive. This drive reads and writes data
to 3.5 inch magneto optical media via either a parallel printer or SCSI port.
It stores 230 MBytes per disk before compression.
Please Note:
These drives are also available for SCO UNIX and for DOS/Windows.
The appropriate drivers therefore need to be specified at the time of order.
Power Changer
Power Changer is a 12 slot autochanger drive. Using DDS2 DAT cartridges it
can store up to 96 GBytes on one single removable magazine. Power Changer
features a compact tower design to minimise the amount of space needed
either on the desk or under it. Alternatively the unit is available as a
compact panel mount solution. Power Changer is fully supported by DataBaX.

Disaster Recovery Seminars
In response to the requests from a number of people we are running a number of
seminars in several countries on disaster recovery strategies. These are hands
on sessions and will give you the chance to actually crash servers and bring
them back up again in a "non career threatening environment". These are being
held in a number of locations in different countries. Sometimes these are
being held in conjunction with IBM who in many cases are loaning a variety
